Runway Use Rules

The North Runway at Dublin Airport was given planning permission by Fingal County Council (FCC) in 2007 which included certain operational requirements contained in the conditions of planning.

Conditions 3 and 4 of the North Runway’s planning permission define the Preferred Runway Use, the same as Operation Mode 7B, and are summarised below:

  • The parallel the North Runway and South Runway are used in preference to the Cross Runway, except when “essential” for safety reasons. In westerly winds, arriving aircraft should use the South Runway and departing aircraft either North Runway or South Runway.
  • In easterly winds, arriving aircraft should use the North Runway and departing aircraft either the North Runway or South Runway.
  • The North Runway is closed at night between 23:00 and 07:00.
