Dublin Airport has welcomed today’s decision by SAS to launch a new Dublin-Gothenburg route next summer.
SAS will fly from Dublin to Gothenburg twice per week in July and August and will operate the new route once a week for the rest of the summer season.
Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said the new Dublin-Gothenburg route would further enhance connectivity between Ireland and Sweden, and offer additional convenience for business and leisure travellers.
“We have been talking to SAS for some time in relation to the potential for a direct service to Gothenburg and we’re delighted that it will be served from Dublin twice per week in the peak summer period next year,” Mr Harrison added. “SAS has been steadily expanding its Dublin operation in recent years and we look forward to working closely with them to promote this new route to Gothenburg.”
Gothenburg will be SAS’s fourth destination from Dublin, as the airline currently serves Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo from Dublin Airport. SAS has been operating services to Dublin for 47 years and is one of the airport’s oldest airline customers. SAS increased its summer frequency on Dublin-Oslo by 50% this year, operating four return flights for the summer season, and expanded its Dublin-Copehagen and Dublin-Stockholm routes in 2012.
The new Gothenburg service will begin on April 4 and will operate once a week until June 20. There will be two flights per week from June 28 until August 15 and the service will operate once a week until the end of summer season in late October.
Gothenburg, which was founded in 1621, is Sweden’s second largest city with a population of just under 1 million people.
