Dublin Airport welcomes Finnair’s decision to launch a new direct service from Dublin to Helsinki from next March.
Finnair will operate the service six days per week with a 100-seater Embraer 190 aircraft. The airline, which is part of the oneworld alliance, withdrew its previous Dublin-Helsinki service in 2007.
“We are delighted to welcome Finnair back to Dublin Airport,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison. “The new Helsinki service will provide greater choice and convenience for customers travelling between Ireland and Finland and will also offer enhanced connectivity between Dublin Airport and key destinations in Asia via Finnair’s hub in Helsinki,” Mr Harrison added.
The growing demand for connectivity to and from Asia was a key factor in the decision to launch the service, according to Finnair.
"With this new destination we are responding to growing demand, particularly from Asia, so timetables for this new route are tailored for the best possible connection to Finnair's Asian flights," said Petri Vuori, Finnair's VP Global Sales. "At the same time of course, our Finnish and Baltic Rim passengers will also be able to enjoy what Dublin and Ireland have to offer."
The Dublin-Helsinki service will be operated on behalf of Finnair by Flybe Finland, with flights daily except Tuesdays. The service will operate from 30 March until late October.
Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport are up 7% so far this year, as the airport welcomed almost 14.6 million passengers in eight months to the end of August.
