The summer season got off to a flying start at Dublin Airport with a total of 3.1 million passengers travelling through the terminals in May.
The busiest day in the month was Thursday, May 23 when almost 120,000 passengers moved through the airport, including more than 68,000 departing passengers. This was Dublin Airport's busiest ever day for departures, with numbers swelled by the thousands of football fans heading back home after the Europa League Final in Dublin.
The Dublin Airport team delivered a stellar performance during the month, with 97% of passengers getting through security screening in under 20 minutes.
Commenting on the May passenger traffic statistics, daa CEO, Kenny Jacobs said:
“The busy summer season is well and truly underway at Dublin Airport. Our teams are set up and ready to welcome the millions of passengers who will use Ireland’s busiest airport over the coming months as they head off on summer holidays, business trips and everything in between. May saw tens of thousands of football fans fly through Dublin Airport for the Europa League final, while new transatlantic services to Denver and Minneapolis took off during the month and are already proving very popular with passengers.
“daa’s summer commitments to passengers at Dublin Airport continues with shortened security times, the rollout of new security scanners and the addition of more exciting food and beverage outlets – including the recently opened Supermac’s in Terminal 2 – going down a storm with passengers this summer," added Jacobs.
